Our Personal Development Offer at Lilycroft Primary School (LPS)
At Lilycroft Primary School, we believe that education is about more than just academic success. Our mission is to develop both academically able and well-rounded, characterful individuals. This commitment is at the heart of everything we do—and our rich Personal Development offer plays a key role in bringing it to life.
We are proud to be Team LPS—a community built on shared values, strong identity and a culture of growth. Personal development at Lilycroft Primary School means giving every child the opportunity to thrive not just in the classroom, but also as confident, compassionate and capable individuals.
Our approach is deeply rooted in our character values of RESPECT:
- Resilience – bouncing back from setbacks and growing from challenge
- Empathy – understanding and caring for others
- Self-awareness – knowing themselves and their strengths
- Passion – showing energy and enthusiasm in all they do
- Excellence – aiming high and striving to be their best
- Communication – expressing themselves clearly and listening to others
- Teamwork – working well with others to achieve shared goals
These values are embedded throughout school life and taught explicitly and implicitly through our curriculum, enrichment and wider opportunities.
As we continue working towards becoming a recognised School of Character, we are intentional in designing opportunities that support children’s moral, civic and personal growth. This includes structured experiences that help pupils develop their sense of self, their place in the community and their responsibilities to others.
To support this, every pupil works through our Lilycroft Experiences booklet—a passport to a range of enriching activities that ensure all children experience memorable moments such as camping, visiting museums, performing on stage, or engaging in outdoor adventures.
Leadership, responsibility and active citizenship are encouraged through a wide range of roles including: House Prefects, School Counsellors, Eco-Committee Members, Bradford Citizens Group Representatives, Restorative Practice Reps, Junior Joes, Junior Journalists, Chief Choristers, and Digital Leaders, to name just a few. These roles help pupils to develop key life skills such as problem-solving, initiative, public speaking and teamwork.
We are incredibly proud of the confident, respectful and responsible young people who make up Team LPS. Through our rich Personal Development offer, we aim to nurture not only future learners, but also future leaders and citizens of character.
