Religious Education – Curriculum Overview

At Lilycroft Primary School, our Religious Education curriculum follows the Bradford Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, ensuring high-quality, locally relevant learning that reflects the diverse community we serve. This develops pupils’ understanding of religion and worldviews, encouraging curiosity, respect and critical thinking. Through RE, pupils explore key beliefs, practices and values from a range of religions and cultures, enabling them to reflect on their own ideas and those of others.

Our curriculum is structured around enquiry-based questions, allowing pupils to explore meaningful themes such as belonging, community, identity, morality and spirituality. Children engage with units across theology, philosophy and social sciences, developing both knowledge and the ability to think deeply about ‘big questions’ in life.

Pupils study a range of religions and worldviews, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism and Buddhism. Learning focuses on understanding key beliefs, sacred texts, festivals, places of worship and the ways in which faith influences people’s daily lives.

Across school, knowledge is carefully sequenced to build progression. Pupils begin by exploring festivals, stories and belonging in Key Stage 1, before developing their understanding of moral choices, symbolism, leadership and spirituality in Key Stage 2. By upper Key Stage 2, pupils are able to analyse different viewpoints, make connections between beliefs and actions, and express their own informed responses.

RE at Lilycroft is inclusive and reflective of our diverse community. Pupils are encouraged to respect and value different beliefs, while recognising both similarities and differences between religions and worldviews. We use the platform Lyfta to support our understanding of our wider views and the values of everyone.
